In the world of software development, productivity is the current buzzword. We are all looking for ways to ensure our development teams are working as efficiently as possible, especially now that we are living in the world of hybrid working. There are lots of tools, frameworks and consultants out there who claim that they have the silver bullet to measuring developer productivity. What we have found during our own developer productivity journey within the last year, however, has given us a different picture. We believe the key to making our development teams truly productive is not to measure them with arbitrary metrics, but it is to actually ask them, ‘what is getting in the way of doing your job?’ and to act on it, to see real results.
